Exploring Sustainable Tourism in Albania: A Students’ Research Project

As part of an internship assignment, we had the opportunity to guide two students from Albania in researching sustainable tourism in their home country. The goal was to explore the principles of sustainable tourism, analyse its current state in Albania, and assess its future potential.

The students began their research by providing some facts about Albania, defining sustainable tourism and its key principles, focusing on the balance between environmental preservationcultural heritage, and economic benefits

One of the key elements of their research was identifying sustainable tourism destinations within Albania. They focused on national parks, eco-lodges, and cultural heritage sites that are at the forefront of promoting responsible tourism. Some of the highlighted locations include the UNESCO-listed Butrint National Park, the Llogara Pass, and the pristine beaches of the Ionian Coast, which are part of Albania’s growing eco-tourism offerings.

The students also explored the challenges faced by the Albanian tourism sector, including infrastructure limitations and the need for better sustainability practices.
