The first mobility activity of the CO-HOST program provided students from Bosnia and Herzegovina with a unique and enriching experience in Portugal, blending education, culture, and sustainability practices.
Over 15 days, the participants were immersed in a diverse range of activities, enhancing their knowledge of Portuguese heritage, sustainable tourism, and local traditions. The program began with a warm welcome in Guimarães, followed by a guided tour of its historic center, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Students explored the medieval streets and landmarks such as Guimarães Castle and the Palace of the Dukes of Braganza, gaining insight into Portugal’s fascinating history. A key highlight of the program was the Sustainable Food Workshop at Cor de Tangerina, where students learned about eco-friendly culinary practices and the importance of local, organic ingredients.
They later participated in a Pottery Workshop, allowing them to experience traditional Portuguese craftsmanship while creating their own handmade pieces. These hands-on activities provided a deep connection to local culture and sustainability. In Braga, students explored the historic center and visited the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus do Monte, marvelling at its breathtaking architecture and serene atmosphere. The exploration continued in Porto, where participants enjoyed a tour of the city’s vibrant historic center and attended a certificate ceremony marking the end of the program. Collaboration with local students was another highlight. Participants joined joint classes with students from the Professional Tourism Course and the Professional Thermalism Course, exchanging knowledge and experiences in an interactive learning environment. These sessions fostered valuable discussions and new friendships.
The Sustainability Route at the Landscape Laboratory gave students practical insights into eco-friendly practices, while workshops on ecological footprints and sustainable living inspired them to rethink their daily habits. The focus on sustainability continued during the visits to Termas de Vizela and Taipas Thermal Baths, where students participated in a thermal circuit activity and a Vichy Workshop to explore the wellness benefits of thermal waters. City tours in Vizela and Porto, combined with leisure moments and informal exchanges, offered students time to reflect on their experiences and deepen their connections with peers and mentors. Feedback from the participants was overwhelmingly positive. Many described the mobility program as a life-changing opportunity that expanded their horizons.
They particularly valued the mix of educational sessions, cultural immersion, and sustainability-focused activities, which inspired them to adopt new ideas and practices. This first mobility activity truly embodied the spirit of international collaboration and cultural exchange. It left a lasting impression on everyone involved, fostering a shared commitment to sustainability, new friendships, and a deeper appreciation of global diversity.“
